GitHub Workshop

In this session, two GitHub representatives, Juan Flores, Project Manager, along with Dave Lacy, Solution Engineer, joined students from across campus for a session on collaborative coding in the Learning Design Challenge’s industry workshop series. Juan and Dave were later joined by Morgan Ersery from GitHub Education and Alex Malebranche from GitHub for Startups for an engaging and productive 90-minute session at the GSE.

Students who attended the event were granted free access to Copilot, GitHub’s AI paired programming tool, as well as the Student Developer Pack, which offers numerous resources to learners. The workshop facilitated 1:1 conversations with members of key GitHub teams, and covered a range of topics, with a focus on opportunities for students and startups.

Key Takeaways:

  • The value of collaborative coding in software engineering and the open-source ecosystem
  • Practical steps on how to get started with open-source tools
  • An introduction to AI paired programming and insights on integrating it into the developer journey

This engagement highlighted GitHub’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives and fostering a new generation of software developers through hands-on learning and comprehensive resources.
